Terrace Waterproofing System Using BS MoistureZero FPU
This section helps customers understand how BS MoistureZero FPU is used as a complete terrace waterproofing system. It is suitable for exposed concrete terraces, podium slabs, balconies, and non-garden roof areas. The system creates a seamless UV-stable waterproof membrane capable of bridging micro-cracks and protecting the slab from water penetration.
Typical Waterproofing Layer Build-Up
Concrete Roof Slab
↓ Surface Cleaning & Crack Repairs
↓ Primer Coat (BS SmartPrimer WB EP or MoistureZero FPU diluted 1:1 with water)
↓ 1st Waterproofing Coat – BS MoistureZero FPU
↓ Optional Fiber Mesh Reinforcement at joints, cracks, drains
↓ 2nd Waterproofing Coat – BS MoistureZero FPU
↓ 3rd Protective Coat – BS MoistureZero FPU
↓ Seamless Flexible Waterproof Membrane
Final thickness: 900 microns – 1.5 mm
Step-by-Step Application System
Step 1 – Surface Preparation
Surface must be:
- Clean and structurally sound
- Free from dust, oil and loose particles
- Properly repaired at cracks and joints
Hairline cracks should be filled before coating.
Step 2 – Primer Coat
Apply primer to improve adhesion. Two options:
Option A – Recommended
Use BS SmartPrimer WB EP
Option B – Economical
Dilute MoistureZero FPU with water in 1:1 ratio
Allow 4–5 hours drying time.
Step 3 – First Waterproofing Coat
Apply BS MoistureZero FPU diluted up to 10% water. Use:
- roller
- brush
- airless spray
Ensure uniform coverage.
Step 4 – Reinforcement Layer (Critical Areas)
Embed fiberglass mesh or polyester fabric at drainage outlets, construction joints, pipe penetrations, and crack-prone areas. This improves long-term durability.
Step 5 – Second Coat
Apply second coat perpendicular to the first coat. Dilution: up to 5% water. Allow 5–8 hours drying time.
Step 6 – Third Coat (Recommended for Terraces)
Apply third coat to achieve required membrane thickness. Final membrane thickness: 900 microns – 1.5 mm
System Advantages
- Seamless waterproof coating without joints
- Flexible membrane with ≥300% elongation
- UV resistant – suitable for exposed terraces
- Crack-bridging performance
- Durable coating for light pedestrian maintenance traffic
Typical Consumption
| Surface | Total Consumption |
|---|---|
| Concrete Terrace | approx 1.2 kg / m² |
| Metal Roof | approx 0.6 – 0.7 kg / m² |
Consumption may vary depending on surface texture and film thickness.
Best Use Cases
This system is ideal for:
- exposed terrace slabs
- podium slabs
- balconies
- metal roofs
- maintenance waterproofing of old roofs
Contractor Tip
For maximum durability:
- Ensure minimum 3 coats on terraces
- Reinforce joints, corners and drainage outlets
- Maintain uniform film thickness
