Vandex AM 10 Integral Crystalline Waterproofing Admixture for Concrete - Tremco

Vandex AM 10 is an integral crystalline waterproofing admixture in dry powder form, added directly to the concrete mix at the batching plant. It is specifically formulated to interact with the concrete's capillary pore structure and become a permanent part of the concrete matrix - there is no membrane to install, nothing to puncture, and no separate coating to maintain.

Once in the concrete, the active chemicals react with free lime and capillary moisture to form insoluble crystalline complexes that block capillaries and minor shrinkage cracks, preventing water ingress even under high hydrostatic pressure. The treated concrete still allows water vapour to pass - i.e. the structure continues to "breathe" - and complies with NSF 61 for potable water contact.

Important - what this product is not: Vandex AM 10 is not an acrylic, not a coating and not a mortar. It is a powder admixture dosed by weight of cement during batching.

• Capillary absorption (ASTM C-1585): > 40% reduction
• Compressive strength (ASTM C-39, 28 days): 4,930 psi (34.0 MPa) - up to 8% increase
• Chloride permeability (ASTM C1202, 28 days): 3,506 coulombs - 10% improvement
• Sulphate resistance (ASTM C-1012, 6 months): 33% improvement
• Freeze/thaw (ASTM C 666, 300 cycles): 93.8% relative durability factor

Dosage

Typically 1 to 2% by weight of cementitious material (BWC), depending on application. Trial mixes are encouraged under project conditions.

Packaging & Shelf Life

Available in 10 kg pails and 20 kg bags. Other packs on request. Shelf life is 12 months in unopened, undamaged original packaging stored in a dry place.

How to Use (Brief)

1. Add Vandex AM 10 to the aggregate as it is being batched, or to the initial batching sequence - never at the end of the batching cycle (this can extend setting times or cause premature stiffening).
2. Mix concrete for a minimum of 8–10 minutes at normal mixing speed after all constituents are batched, to ensure complete dispersion.
3. Slight increase in air-entrainment dosage may be required.
4. Place, finish and cure the concrete using standard concreting practice.
5. Carry out trial mixes under project conditions to confirm performance with project cement and aggregates.
